Dear Mrs. Boutilier:
For my capstone project I am helping out the Connecticut Alliance Of Foster & Adoptive kids with the Save The Date event. This organization puts on a dream prom for adoptive and foster kids and helps them get dresses, makeup, shoes and haircuts. This event is happening March 14, 2019 but they collect dresses and set up all year. We will be holding drives for the things needed, setting up for the prom, and the day of the prom we will be helping the teens pick out outfits and helping to get their makeup and hair done. I chose to do this because I think prom is a happy thing and I think everyone should experience it. Also, during the war in Bosnia my mom lost both of her parents at a young age, so she was alone until her sister basically adopted her and brought her to America with them and this is very close to my heart.
My research is: What is the experience like for a person in foster care? This question relates to my project because I am helping foster and adoptive kids and I will be contacting many people about donations and the families of foster and adoptive kids. The artifacts that I will present to answer this question are pictures, texts and just the kid’s words.
My mentor is Catherine Rose. Her contact information is [email protected]. I chose her to be my mentor because she is the one putting on the event and she knows so much about this. She was already a mentor before, and so she knows what the job comes with. Something that will push me and take me out of my comfort zone is actually contacting new people and just talking to them I do not really just go out and talk to people. Also, something else that will push me is helping someone organize a large event. I usually do not even go to large events so me organizing one is something I never thought I would do so it is brand new for me.
sincerely,
Neldina
