Many kids in foster care have a hard time letting go and just having fun. Teens experience many things before and in foster care that can be very stressful to them. In addition to stress, abuse ,and neglect, children who enter foster care may have been exposed to parental substance abuse, domestic, community violence, and poverty (Willams-Mbengue). I feel like an event like The Avenue of Dreams can help a teen relieve stress for at least a day, doing something for themselves and just help them let go and do something for them instead of worrying about what happened in the past. Avenue of Dreams is an event for adoptive and foster teens where they get to get their hair and makeup done and pick out dresses and tuxedos and just have a photo shoot, dance, and be apart of a fashion show.
